About Dunstanburgh Castle

DunstanburghCastle was rated as one of the largest and grandest castles in the north of England and stands high on a cliff edge on the NorthumberlandCoast.

It has historic links with the Wars of the Roses when it was besieged by Yorkists, but was equally recognised for its defence from Edward II and the Scots who took advantage of the constant feuding between Edward II and Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, a powerful baron, responsible for the erection of this grand fortress.

This 14 th Century building is now largely ruinous in its appearance and can only be viewed by foot along footpaths alongside the rocky beach, but does not fail to impress
