About Lindisfarne Castle
Lindisfarne Castle is built on a volcanic mound, situated in a unique position on the popular Holy Island, which can only be visited by a tidal causeway.
Following the dissolution of monasteries by Henry III, stones from the priory also located on the island, were recycled and used to build the castle in the 1550s and serves as an historic landmark for many miles around. In 1968 the castle was taken over by the National Trust and has been preserved as if it were still lived in.
